This site has been born out of a love of poetry and a desire to share that love. It began in 2004 with a poem for my mother-in-law's funeral. The response was touching and encouraging. Other funerals meant more poems and positive feedback. Then a seed of an idea for a collection of poems for the key moments in life, to be categorised into seasons, hence the title Seasons of Life. But like life itself the path to this website has been long and winding with long gaps between inspirations, opportunities to write and solitude to focus but it is at least now at a point where there is content.
The aim is to provide words for those who are looking for a way to express what they feel at key events in life (e.g. births, weddings, anniversaries, funerals) but do not want to use those traditionally used and cannot find their own words to express their feelings. I have tried to capture the feelings and emotions of events and seen them from different perspectives. If you find a poem that captures the moment for you then feel free to copy it but please respect the efforts and energy I have put into the writing and acknowledge Lorna Beedham as its author.
In time I hope to add more poems as circumstances allow and ideas come to mind so please do visit again.
Goodbye My Friend
They say you don’t appreciate what you have until it’s gone or taken away
And that’s certainly been true as I’ve thought of you over these past days.
I’m sorry to say I didn’t value you as I should or as much as you truly deserved,
But now in my mind, and always, your qualities will be treasured and preserved.
I’ll not forget our journey, the valleys and steep paths we climbed this life together,
The storms, the sunshine, the rain, the drought and life’s other forms of weather.
So, as through life, I continue without you, my way to wend,
I count it an honour, privilege and blessing to have been allowed to call you friend.
While There is Love
I thank you for coming and sharing this day,
When you think of my life and my passing away,
I thank you that in life you all held me dear,
And now in death, even though painful, be assured I am near.
I am in every memory, every thought, every word that you share,
In every laugh, tear and sigh, a part of me is there.
I am still with you and will remain deep in your heart
For while there is love nothing can keep us apart.
The Foster Carer & Adopter's Promise
My child I can't change all that you've been through
But I can, from here onwards, walk every step with you
I know there are still many mountains to climb and obstacles along your way
But my promise to you is, while I have breath, I'll be here every single day.
Wedding Day
Today is the day you have both been planning for quite some time,
Looking to create something special, something unique and incredibly fine.
A day to remember as the weeks turn to years,
As together you sail the ocean of life, holding each other dear.
Golden Anniversary
Silence is golden so they say
But not on such a day as today
For golden are your memories of time present and past
As over 50 years your history you have created to last.
